We’re pleased to announce our chosen charity for 2020 is Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Throughout this year, we will be hosting fundraising events, volunteering, and taking on personal challenges to support this fantastic local charity.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a central part of many families’ lives, providing dedicated paediatric care to children from the West Midlands and beyond. The hospital is the UK’s leading specialist paediatric centre, home to the largest Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Europe, and is a global centre of excellence for treating complex heart conditions, cancer, burns, kidney, and liver disease.

One in five families in Birmingham will have an experience with the children’s hospital. Though the NHS provides medical and primary care, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity fund raises to enhance the experience of patients and their families. A positive environment, where children can play and feel at ease, improves recovery and success rates of procedures, in addition to helping families in what can be a challenging time. By ensuring wards are brightly refurbished, that children have the opportunity to play, and that dedicated research is conducted to improve paediatric care, the charity ensures that the hospital experience is as positive as possible.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital has a personal connection to us here at Mackenzie Jones, with two of our colleagues having experienced the care and support of the charity – either first hand or through family members.

My sister was born with a congenital heart defect and spent 8 weeks in Birmingham Children’s hospital following her birth. Thanks to the team at the hospital she made a full recovery and my family will always be indebted to the wonderful staff.
Joshua Bennetto, Senior Consultant – FMCG Sales and Marketing

I was an outpatient at Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s audiology department throughout my childhood, and had several operations on my ears. I have fond memories of watching My Little Pony and playing Pokémon cards while recovering from anaesthetic! I’ve always remembered the kind nurse, named Dawn, who looked after me during my two operations and how the staff put my little 4 year old mind at ease.

The Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity aims to always improve the hospitals facilities, and provide the best experience possible for patients and their families. Funds go towards improving patient & staff education and welfare, developing the patient environment, funding medical research and purchasing new equipment.

We’ll be holding fundraising activities throughout the year to support this fantastic local charity, and volunteering our time to their services. Members of the Mackenzie Jones team will also be taking on personal challenges to raise sponsorship funds. Please join us in raising money for the hospital, either by donating to our Just Giving page or keeping an eye out for our events.
