Overview

Mackenzie Jones IT were engaged by a leading PLC to assist with a key development role that the organisation had tried to recruit for over a period of four months. Prior to working with Mackenzie Jones IT they had used the services of two other agencies who had not provided the relevant talent. 

The client were seeking to engage a Mumps developer, to work on new development projects, as well as enhancements to existing systems both internal and external.

Solution

Engaging directly with the Managing Director, we scoped and gathered the requirements of the role.  Covered not only the technical requirements and nuances of the position, but also the cultural fit and required soft skills. 

Scoped the requirement to fully understand the development work that required immediate focus, combined with future development projects that had been initially scoped and the future plans for the role and the team.   

Additionally, we discussed how previous applicants from other sources had failed to meet the requirements; this was a very useful exercise to fully understand on what basis those applicants failed to meet the requirements so this would not be repeated during our engagement. 

Set out and agreed timescales for delivery. 

We then agreed the following process to find the best talent:-

  • Targeted headhunting
  • Online advertising
  • Network referrals 
  • In-depth telephone interviews
  • Face to face competency based interviews

Result

A shortlist was presented to the Managing Director within 8 working days, this was ahead of the agreed timescale of 10 working days. 3 candidates from the shortlist were then selected for interview.  The 3 selected candidates were fully prepped. We ensured we provided them with all the necessary data and information to fully prepare for their interview. 

We managed the full interview process through first, second stage interviews up to offer stage and acceptance. Due to the strength of the shortlist presented our client decided to offer 2 candidates a developer position, when the original requirement was only for 1 developer.
